QUALITY EDUCATION Since 1988, Contech's senior management and members of Contech's Quality Improvement Teams have been trained at the week long Quality Improvement Process Management College conducted by Philip Crosby Associates at Winter Park, Florida, and other locations. Contech's President is trained and certified as a Quality Education System (Q.E.S.) instructor and has taught Q.E.S. training courses since 1989. Contech's Q.E.S. course has evolved over the years into a ten-week course presented in ten classroom sessions. The purpose of the Q.E.S. course is to introduce each employee to the basic concepts and tools of quality improvement and to prepare each individual to participate in the quality improvement process. During the ten weeks of the course, session topics and action assignments include: managing quality, identifying requirements, using prevention, understanding "zero defects," calculating the price of nonconformance, developing teamwork, measuring to improve, analyzing problems, eliminating problem causes, and improving customer/supplier relationships. Several tools are introduced and utilized in weekly action assignments completed by participants and reviewed each week with their manager or supervisor. These include: process flow diagrams, the process model work sheet, check sheets, techniques for calculating the price of nonconformance, teamwork skills (team design, meeting environment, meeting mechanics, agenda, meeting minutes, action assignments, trust development, brainstorming, consensus building, and conflict resolution), the measurement work sheet, run charts, control charts, common cause variation, special cause variation, five steps for eliminating nonconformance, threads of similarity, cause and effect (or fish bone) diagrams, Pareto diagrams, Pareto analysis, bench marking, Gantt charts, PERT charts, and effective evaluation. All home office personnel, with the exception of a few recently hired employees, have now completed Contech's Q.E.S. course. Copyright 2005 Contech Control Services, Inc. |
